Key Assets, with the support of the Martin James Foundation has partnered with the charity Lumos to assist with deinstitutionalization and the development of foster care in Columbia. Lumos develops programs and provides support to the Columbian Government and non-government organizations (NGO’s) that provide alternative care through the development of policies and strategies to guarantee the rights of children and adolescents who require alternative care. Key Assets support began when past CEO Kathryn Rock and Catherine Paynter, Recruitment Coordinator provided training to Columbian Government Officials, Psychologists and NGO’s in November 2019, in Bogota with the support and guidance of Lumos. Training focused on highlighting the benefits of family-based care, recruitment, screening, and support of foster families. The pandemic has prevented any further in person training, however training opportunities have continued to be provided virtually to Lumos staff, Psychologists, Children’s Lawyers, NGO’s and Government Officials in the format of webinars. The emphasis of the webinars has been to support recruitment and marketing strategies for family-based caregivers, provide strategies to screen potential families and effective ways to support foster parents, all more complex initiatives during the Pandemic. Key Assets will continue to offer consultancy services to Lumos throughout 2021 with webinars, to educate and support Lumos’s ongoing work to expand family based foster care.
