The Need for Foster Care
Each story is different, but they all have one thing in common. Learn why we do what we do.
In Ontario children continue to need foster home placements. There is never enough foster homes to support the need. They may require care due to a multitude of reasons – family illness, family breakdown, problems at home, or a situation where their safety is threatened. Many of these children have experienced neglect as well as physical, emotional, or sexual abuse.
Caring For Children
While each of their stories are different, every single one of them has faced a common experience of loss and separation from their family. Their life experiences and trauma may be expressed through tantrums, self-harm or harm to others, or even appear to reject care.
This can be a result of moving from carer to carer, or as resentment for being placed in care in the first place. It is important to understand that this is a reflection of trauma not a reflection of the foster carer. A carers job is to a to help a child or youth feel secure, safe and cared for.
